Stamper's Neurosis Part Two

I am simply amazed by the number of emails, private messages at Splitcoast and comments here on my Stamper's Neurosis post (see below). At first I was relieved -- a few people agree with me, I can't be too nuts. Then as I heard from so many folks whose work I know and love, I was fascinated by everyone's thoughts. However, as the numbers grew, I found myself looking to see how many folks would comment! NO!! Not again!! You see, I can diagnose my neurosis, but not cure it!! LOL I do want to clarify a couple of points -- I love SCS! That site and Gingerwood and others are NOT my problem. I consider them an amazing stamping resource and a source of enormous camaraderie and friendship. My issues are within me -- not a website. Moreover, there is nothing wrong with wanting some validation, praise, attention, etc. There is nothing wrong with having a counter on a blog, with folks linking to certain blogs, commenting on some cards and not others. There's nothing wrong with preferring certain artists over others, or wanting folks to like us!! It is human nature -- I admit it and am not ashamed of it. There is also nothing wrong per se with a little competition (hey, I ran a contest, for goodness sake!). However, I let it get out of control and it was interfering with the reason I've invested so much time and sooo much money into this hobby -- to enjoy, to relax, to share. Enough with the psycho stuff! The next post will be stamping, stamping and some more stamping....but first, off to celebrate my husband's birthday!

  1. Right on :)
I just had to take pity and give you a comment, it seems that these days blog readers are very, ehmm, keyboard-tied? not much is coming out of anyones mouth (regarding comments) one just has to NOT worry about it.
Bring on the cards, I wanna seeeeee

  7. Love, love, love your point of view, Joan! After the cheesecake and some birthday kissies, I hope you had time for stampin' fun. As the recipient of your wonderful creations, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

  8. Joan, you poor thing! I wonder if my own progression will be towards neurosis as I grow in this hobby -- I think not -- I can't upload! It doesn't really seem worth it (uploading), and blogging seems so out there and I'm too chicken -- but I can feel for you and anything growing out of control! Actually, your comments are sort of a warning to me. You've provided a community service! :)

  9. What a refreshing and much needed commentary on stamping! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts as we must all remember the real reason why we got into stamping in the first place. Reading your post was like taking a breath of fresh air!

  10. Hi Joan,
I read part I and Part II. I agree that I started this because I enjoyed doing it myself. And I still do especially when I am teaching someone something they don't know. One of my classes has a former SU Demo in it and she is very talented and creative. My last class we did a bleach technique sheet and a card that had seven layers to it. She said it was the best class that we have done. Now I have to top that for the next one. Keep on sharing. I enjoy everyones blogs and keep looking for that special card that will put me over the top.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us stampers.

  12. Joan - Thank you for defending the good of SCS. In any and every group there is a core that is central to the very existence of it. Their impetus is to provide challenges that keep up the interest in the group. It is then up to others to respond or not respond to those challenges depending upon their individual interests. I consider those leaders to be encouragers, not demanders; I certainly recognize the time and efforts they consume to teach me new things. I also appreciate everyone's galleries that so generously provide me with ideas and suggestions. Hopefully everyone would keep in mind that leaders, too, are probably hyper-sensitive to criticism...after all, we're all ARTISTS!
