The Wedding Card

A friend of mine is getting married tomorrow (!!) and time was running out so I turned to my trusty embossed vellum for the elegant look. Love that look!! Since none of my friends are stampers [ugh], they'll never know how easy this was! (I was going to wait until the weekend to post this, but a couple of folks asked to see it, so in keeping with my new attitude about the blog, why not??) And, here's the inside: How I made this card: All supplies Stampin Up unless otherwise noted: I embossed cardstock vellum with the Textile Embossing Folder from SU, and using my Xyron, adhered it to Pretty in Pink cardstock. I also printed the names "Amy and Stuart" (the bride and groom) on the computer with the same vellum. I took a piece of Pretty in Pink cardstock and punched a rectangle out of it and then trimmed to form a frame. Threaded narrow white and pink organdy ribbon, non SU silver cording and a non SU heart charm that I picked up at AC Moore's this afternoon (the card really needed something else). After I was done with the card, I decided to add a little flourish from Carte Postale, so I masked the center of the card and stamped the flourish in the corner with Encore Silver pigment ink. The inside text is from Versatile Verses and the flower is also from Carte Postale. What I learned from making this card: Stamp the silver flourish first! Use a different, more script like font for the names. Otherwise, I learned that I can have a good time making a card and not worry about what other folks think about it. Hey, I'm trying, I'm trying.

  3. I think the card is beautiful! Don't be so hard on yourself. I know what you mean about the competition. I just don't get into it. I don't have a blog and don't post my stuff on SCS. Some people have so much talent. I just know I would start feeling that competion thing and start feeling as you do. Take heart.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  4. There it is! It's very elegant. Isn't that embossing folder about the best weddingy thing ever? I love it, I am using it on my nieces wedding invitations....It is perfect for a wedding!

Good job, pretty nice card for making it while multi-tasking with everything else you had to get done today!

  6. first let me say i have been lurking for a while now and i really enjoy your stuff....

i do not get caught up in all the stuff at SCS...i like to look but rarely make comments or start threads unless i need a particular pattern of something....i think it is very catty over there and unless you are "somebody" then you don't get praise for your hard work....that's just my opinion and i could be wrong but i tell ya it doesn't take much for them to damn you in a minute....so anyway...keep posting because i really enjoy looking at your work...

  7. Joan, the card is beautiful! Elegant too! I love it and couldn't have done such a good job. You should pat yourself on the back. Now you need to take a 'me' day. Breathe deeply, relax, get a pedicure or a manicure or go shopping... whatever floats your boat but just take care of you. Competition all too often can be a green eyed monster. Heck, I'll let you borrow a child if you'd like. That's what keeps me from competing so much. I was trying and trying to make your B&W deadline but to no avail! My DS did not want to go to bed very early (2 teeth coming in-yikes!). SO enjoy the little things girlfriend!

  8. Beautiful card! I like the blocky font rather than a script. It's still elegant, but gives a nice contrast with its heavier weight to the pretty curves of the embossing. It makes a good, strong focal point.

  9. Joan, I think this card is beautiful! Thanks for the extra tips about things you learned while making it 'cause I plan of lifting this one for sure.
And I commend you on being able to self-examine that the competition wasnt making stamping fun anymore, and then taking steps in direction of simplifying your life. Kudos! Adelle/mnhyrkas

  11. embossing with the vellum cardstock is truly inspired! I love the look. We are having a snowstorm today (or so the weathermen say!) so I am going to give this a try!

  12. I think the card is gorgeous and don't worry about SCS. I do like that site and always am going there for inspiration, but I'm not an SU demo, just a fellow stamper who loves to stamp and I do it for my own gratification and enjoyment. In papercrafting, there are no "wrong ways" to do it, just your way. I love your work and your blog. Keep it up!!!

  13. Love the card. I guess I need to check my SU catty for stencils to use in the bug. What sandwich did you use for the stencil?
Have fun at the wedding and eat lots of cake:)
